The Last Paradise Lord Howe Island is an island paradise and wonder upon wonder to behold. You will be enchanted by its majestic volcanic peaks, lush palm groves and giant banyan trees, large bird colonies, tranquil beaches, exotic flora and fauna, and, beneath the waves, the coral treasures of its Marine Park will dazzle you.
In 1982 Lord Howe Island was included on the
UNESCO World Heritage list as "an example of superlative natural phenomena
that contains important and significant habitats of biological diversity".
The Island Group teems with a diverse marine life with some 500 species of
fish, over 90 coral species and the world's most southern coral reef.
A State Marine Park was declared in 1998 and a Commonwealth Marine Park in 1999. About 75 per cent of the island and its islets are preserved
as permanent park. A considerable effort goes into preserving and maintaining its pristine natural state.
Lord Howe Island is a
